Tax Manager - Blackpool/Nottingham

Supporting our Healthcare Services team to deliver a high quality service to a portfolio of clients, the principal duties of this role will be to:

• Manage tax services for a portfolio consisting primarily of GP practice partnerships, their individual partners and company directors; also to plan assignments and review work, prepared and undertaken by others and submit tax assignments for partner review.
• Look after a range of clients, preparing assignments for partner review (tax, superannuation and briefing notes).
• Co-ordinate compliance service delivery to clients and ensure that information is collected in the most efficient manner, timetabling work wherever possible to suit the needs of the client.
• Ensure that jobs are adequately resourced and to plan, delegate, review and feedback to other staff involved in the delivery of client service.
• Plan the approach to assignments following partner/director briefing, having agreed fee budget and completion deadline.
• Look for opportunities to mitigate tax whilst considering the impact of the NHS Pension.
• Work flexibly, where required to accommodate the needs of the whole department.
• Review work in progress and fee budgets on a regular basis, reporting any variances from the quarterly billing target to the relevant partner/director/senior manager.
• Give clear and unambiguous instructions to staff on assignments and provide feedback.
• Manage a portfolio of partnership and personal tax clients.
• Review draft computations prepared by more junior members of staff and prepare assignments for director/partner review.
• Liaise with clients to obtain information and provide details of their tax position.

Essential Skills:
• A minimum of two years’ client portfolio management experience in a taxation role within practice.
• Up to date technical knowledge of taxation.
• Technically competent and compliant and gives due consideration to risk.
• Appropriate written and oral communication skills both internally and externally.
• Appropriate computer software skills (including Word and Excel).
• Able to research and present findings.
• A driving licence and a car insured for business use.
• ATT/CTA part qualified or qualified by experience.

Desirable Skills:
• Experience of medical practice accounts, tax computations and the NHS Pension scheme.
• Up to date technical knowledge of taxation and superannuation legislation as they affect healthcare clients.
